Yes, Rich wants to bring Craig Kilborn back to SportsCenter, and he thinks it could actually happen.
"I did mention to Kilborn, let's do one," Rich said. "And I think that's possible. Let's get Kilby back in the chair."
The idea surfaced as Rich walked through "This Was SportsCenter," the labor-of-love series now streaming Fridays on Disney Plus, the ESPN app, and the Rich Eisen Show YouTube channel. The show pairs Rich with SportsCenter legends for hour-long, nostalgia-soaked conversations. Dan Patrick led off. A Chris Berman episode landed too, a Super Bowl-week chat recorded live on the stage of the Strand Theater in San Francisco. A Mike Greenberg episode is in the edit bay, and a Linda Cohn sit-down is on deck after that.
Kilborn fits the same mold, and Rich made clear he already floated it to him directly. A reunion is not booked, but the invitation is out there.
There may even be momentum on Kilborn's end. The crew noted that he recently posted a photo of himself looking "very regal," possibly in a smoking jacket. "He's got something cooking," one cast member said. The enthusiasm in the room for the pairing was immediate: "Oh, man. All time."
The chemistry has history behind it. Rich recalled the group drinking martinis with Kilborn during a previous visit, and it played out exactly the way you would expect from two SportsCenter alums. "He thought it was the bruise and not cold enough," Rich said. "And my toast was too long." Someone added that Kilborn requested a specific type of vodka.
"We only know one speed on SportsCenter even years later," one of the guys said.
So is a Kilborn reunion locked in? Not yet. But Rich has pitched it, Kilborn has heard it, and based on how Rich talked about it, "This Was SportsCenter" already has another name near the top of its list. If the series keeps reuniting the anchors who built the franchise, Kilby in the chair feels less like a maybe and more like a matter of scheduling.
