Overreaction Tuesday: Rich Talks Bills, Rams, Jags, Packers, Arch Manning, Dodgers & More

Overreaction Monday landed on a Tuesday this week, and Chris came in with thoughts from SoFi Stadium. He'd been at the game. He just wasn't wearing anything Rams related.

His first take: as long as Josh Allen plays Superman every game, the road to the Super Bowl in the AFC goes through Buffalo. Rich wasn't ready to crown anyone. He pointed to the Bills' schedule, starting with a game in New England they have to win or they'll lose the tiebreaker against the defending AFC champs. There are two games each against the Jets and Dolphins, but also Baltimore at home in Week 8, a trip to Minnesota, Kansas City at home on Thanksgiving night and Denver, where their season ended last year. Verdict: an overreaction for the moment. "Lots more football left to be played, but I'm picking up what you're putting down," Rich said.

Chris then flipped to the other sideline. A combination of weird McVay decisions and special teams snafus, he argued, will keep the Rams out of the playoffs. Rich shut that down fast. Special teams is a third of the game, and you could say that about any team. "Out of the playoffs? Come on, man. They're just two and three," Rich said. "They're too talented. I'm not going there yet." He sees winnable games ahead and a team that could easily be 7-3 at the bye.

That pivoted straight into the Packers. Chris proposed that Jordan Love to Christian Watson is the best deep threat in the NFL. That throw traveled nearly 67 yards in the air. Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase came up as a comparison, though Chase's longest catch of the year was a 40-something yarder in Miami. Rich bought it. "Who else is continuously going up top to flip the field?" Not an overreaction.

Next came a look ahead to the monster Week 6 game in London: if the Texans beat the Jaguars, the Texans win the AFC South. "That's out of control," came the response. The case for it was that Jacksonville should have lost to the Eagles and has holes in its ship. The counter was that every team has holes, and the Jaguars are better than most with a defense that is "highly opportunistic." The Texans looked good as a unit for the first time all year, but it came against the winless Titans, a nice get-right game for many.

Speaking of Tennessee, Chris floated something he admitted pained him: maybe it's time Cam Ward got the Bryce Young treatment, a little timeout from the starting job. It worked for Young, after all. Rich didn't think the Titans would do it, but he couldn't call it crazy for a team "looking at 0 and 17." Not an overreaction, if that's what the Titans feel he needs.

College football got its turn. Steve Sarkisian recently said that if it weren't Manning on the back of the jersey, people would think Arch was playing pretty well. Chris's take: Arch Manning won't be among the first three quarterbacks taken in the 2027 draft. The case for it is a crowded class. Analysts, including Daniel Jeremiah, have Drew Mestemaker going first, and Dante Moore, Trinidad Chambliss and CJ Carr are all in the conversation while Manning isn't playing as well as them right now. Rich wasn't ready to say it, partly because nobody knows Manning is even coming out. "Would that be the most Manning family thing, just staying in college?" he asked. The alternate ending was offered too: Manning stays, wins a Heisman and a national championship, and goes first overall a year later. Overreaction for the moment.

The segment closed on baseball. Chris declared there will be a new World Series champion this fall, and added that he was right about Shohei Ohtani's pitching. Rich called the first part an overreaction. The Dodgers may not look like a complete team right now, and there's talk of benching Ohtani, but Rich isn't writing them off. "Overlook them at your own peril," he said. "I'm not taking them to win. I think discarding them right now is a mistake and an overreaction."
