Larry David Talks Knicks-Spurs, New HBO Comedy Series & More with Rich

Larry David came on the Rich Eisen Show still recovering. He had been at Madison Square Garden for the Knicks' Game 4 comeback, courtside and close enough to the action that the night nearly did him in. A day later he was, in his own word, spent.

"Yesterday I was spent. Completely spent," David told Rich. "I'm sure it shortened my life."

What followed was a tour of an admittedly half-empty man processing the most improbable night in recent Knicks history, and it broke into a handful of distinct moments.

The first was the reaction that made him go viral. When Josh Hart had the ball with a chance to put the Knicks ahead and it went off the back iron, David was sure it was over. His on-camera despair spread across the internet, an unlikely fate for a man who insists he is not built to be present for things like this. By the end of the night he had ranked the comeback the number one New York sports moment of his life, ahead of the likes of Bucky Dent, Aaron Boone, Matteau, and the helmet catch.

The second was a courtside grievance only David would air. His seats sit right next to the Spurs bench, and an assistant coach spent the game standing directly in front of him, blocking his view.

The third was Victor Wembanyama, whom David studied up close and came away convinced he could have handled, given the right dimensions. "My game could have translated to the NBA if I was 7'4," he said. He even wondered aloud why the Spurs were not feeding Wembanyama in the post down the stretch, which brought a comparison to Wilt Chamberlain's fadeaway as the standard for a dominant big man.

And then there was the new show. "Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness" debuts June 26th on HBO and HBO Max, a series in which David inserts himself into history-making moments. Whether his nerves survive the rest of the Knicks' playoff run live, he admitted, is its own open question.

Each of those moments gets its own breakdown in the segments below.
