Larry David has a new show and a scheduling problem, and he laid out both on the Rich Eisen Show.
The show is "Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness," debuting June 26th at 9 p.m. Eastern on HBO and HBO Max. David described it as his imagining of history-making moments, with himself injected into the conversation. Some of it is made up, some based on real facts.
"I was a history major in college," David said, explaining the premise's origins with characteristic self-deprecation. He picked the major because it was the easiest thing for him to memorize, and English meant too much reading. "Finally it paid off."
The series drops him into moments like the Boston Tea Party and the Wright brothers' first flight, David playing a character somehow involved in each. Rich urged everyone to watch.
He and Rich also shared a laugh over a photo making the rounds, David and Jerry together after the game, captioned about the Spurs knowing how to take a lead but not how to hold one. David loved it.
Then came the harder question: would David watch Knicks-Spurs Game 5 live? The math was not in his favor. Saturday's game starts at 5:30 Pacific, which means by halftime he is encroaching on dinner, on a Saturday night, with a wife who is, as he put it, not really that into it.
Rich was unmoved by the excuse. "This is the Knicks, Larry."
David conceded the point. He floated taping the second half, then rejected the idea outright. He was going to watch it live, consequences and all.
"If it's a divorce," he said, "it'll be worth it. If they win."
