Who’s Up for a Podcast Where Every Gets to Yell at Chris Brockman?

Every great show idea starts with somebody having a problem with Chris. This one started with Marc Sessler.

Apparently Sessler has beef with Brockman, and the crew lamented that they never got into it on air. That was the opening. The response was immediate and not especially sympathetic to Chris. "Well, a lot of people have beef with him," came the reply.

And then, somewhere in the laughter, a concept arrived fully formed: Beef with Brockman.

The pitch, as it was hammered out in real time, goes like this. Someone with a grievance sits down across from Chris. They eat beef while they argue. They hash it out. The twist is that the guest does not get to order the beef they want. Chris orders for them.

If that sounds like a bit, the room insisted otherwise. "It's not a bit," one voice objected. The burger draft, they pointed out, is in fact beef. The guest can either argue their beef or get mad about what landed on their plate. Everybody seemed to agree this was, at minimum, a kind of good idea.

A sponsor was even in mind. Joe Thomas, they figured, could sponsor it and weigh in while Chris and the guest go at it.

There was one creative note. Chris wondered aloud whether the guest had to be someone he actually had beef with, and the answer was that the whole premise works better if there is a real problem between the two of them. It creates tension, as one crew member put it. "You've taken English courses, sir," came the reminder. "You understand that that's what makes for a good story is tension."

Someone offered the obvious comparison. "This is like our spin on Hot Ones." The catch, it was noted, is that on Hot Ones the food is chosen for the interviewees. That raised the practical question of who does the choosing here.

"So you want me to order for the person, basically," Chris said.

Well, yes. They were spitballing.

The segment closed on the only verifiable fact in the entire discussion: one person in the room has actually sent money to Hall of Fame Farms and received the product. Multiple times. "Delicious," came the review.

Chris, meanwhile, made his position clear. He is waiting for the freebies.
