Which NFL Player Had the Best Week 1 for Their New Team?

Sometimes a player needs a change of scenery. Sometimes he was good exactly where he was and the cap moved him anyway. Sometimes he has never been a free agent before and wants to find out what that feels like.

Whatever the reason, Week 1 produced a long list of players who went wild in new uniforms, and the show went around the room picking favorites.

Kenneth Walker was the obvious starting point. The Chiefs finally have a running game, he looked the part, and that is exactly what Patrick Mahomes and that offense need while he works back from the ACL.

The more interesting case was DJ Moore in Buffalo.

The connection with Josh Allen did not fire immediately. Once it did, it was on. Pair that with the game Dalton Kincaid had, and the Bills offense suddenly looks like it has answers it did not have.

What makes Moore's arrival satisfying is the path. He spent years with the Panthers, lost in the ether during lean seasons, then went to Chicago in a trade that was surprising at the time but good for him. Now he is a legitimate perimeter weapon for Allen, which has been the missing piece in Buffalo for as long as anyone can remember.

The timing gets better this week. Buffalo is christening the new Highmark Stadium with its home opener, which means Moore's first game in front of Bills fans. The expectation around the desk is that he is primed for a big one.

Isaiah Likely was the next pick, and Monday night made the case.

The reference point was the toe tap game in Kansas City, where Likely got the toes down on the boundary. Against the Cowboys, he had no trouble getting his feet in, and he showed up and showed out. He is now a real weapon for Jaxson Dart and seemingly the number two pass catcher behind Malik Nabers, who looks fully back and healthy.

The history helps. Likely already knows John Harbaugh, which makes the fit close to seamless for a young offense.

That led to an admission from one voice on the desk who grew up in Philadelphia and knows better.

"I should not like them. But I do."

The Giants have a personality that started to show last season and appears ready to take over this one. Cam Newton is already turning up in commercials hip checking a truck into a parking spot. There will be backflips.

"Of all the teams I hate, I like the Giants the most," came the summary, followed immediately by a suggestion that the show should do a power rankings of the teams you hate.

The last pick went to a position nobody votes for, and it came with a credential.

The pitch started with a story about winning the Pennsylvania State Press Association's highest journalism award in high school for a piece on an offensive line, written because the big boys do not get enough credit.

So the nominee is Tyler Linderbaum, who went to the Raiders.

What he did was protect Kirk Cousins across 31 dropbacks with no pressures and no sacks allowed. He also opened large holes for Ashton Jeanty, who nobody was quite sure about, and who ran for 102 yards.

He did exactly what he was paid to do and made a huge impact on that line and that team.
