"Truly a Dream Come True" - Knicks Fan Rich Reacts to New York’s First NBA Title Since 1973

"My entire life, I've been waiting for this moment."

That is where Rich started, because that is where every Knicks fan of a certain age starts. The New York Knicks are champions of the world, and the man who has spent decades talking about this team for a living could barely form a sentence about it.

"I honestly can't believe it's happened," Rich said. "I simply cannot believe it. I've been dreaming of this moment. I've been living and dying for this moment."

He landed on the same word twice, and it was the only one that fit: euphoric. "I am out of my skull. I don't even know what to think. I don't even know what to do. I don't even know how to feel other than completely euphoric."

The team earned that reaction the hard way. Rich called them "one of the most resilient teams I've ever seen that I've rooted for or have talked about," and then went further. "I've never seen anything like it."

The center of attention was Jaylen Brunson, and Rich did not bury the lede on where he belongs. "Jaylen Brunson needs a statue right away. Like, let's not even wait." Brunson is "one of the greatest Knicks of all time," up there with Walt Frasier, "up there with anybody in the history of New York sports."

Then came the part that made it real, the names that turn a championship from a result into a memory. Rich thanked his Knicks friends. He thanked his older brother, the one who got him into the team in the first place. And he reached for Marv Albert, "wherever he is right now."

"Yes, and it counts," Rich said. "All the old Knicks, all of my New York friends. It is time to celebrate."

He also made sure to credit Mike Brown, "the guy that the Knicks hired after they knocked on so many other doors." Rich's verdict on the coach and his staff was simple: "Sir, I salute you."

The celebration even softened one long-standing tension, if only for a second. "I'm so happy I'd even hug James Dolan," Rich said, "but just for a quick second and then move on."

He promised more on Monday's show, but the headline was already written by a fan who happens to host a sports program. One of the greatest New York sports teams ever. One of the greatest New York athletes ever. A dream, as he put it, come true.

"Go New York. Go New York. Go."
