Seth Rollins Admits He Gets Nervous Watching Wife Becky Lynch Wrestle

Ask a married couple who wrestles for a living which one worries more, and you expect a diplomatic answer. Seth Rollins did not give one.

Becky Lynch does not get nervous watching her husband work. Asked directly whether she does, she answered with a flat "no." Rollins could not say the same.

"I get nervous watching you sometimes," he told her.

Lynch seemed genuinely surprised. "You?"

"Yes, yes, yes."

Pressed on why, Rollins hesitated. "I don't know if I can say this out loud," he said, before landing on the word he wanted. "Protective."

What follows is the part he clearly knew would travel. Rollins made a point of covering himself first. "I love and respect every single talent that is on our roster," he said. Then he said the thing anyway.

"I will say women get a little loose in there sometimes. They get a little more loose than the boys."

Someone at the desk offered "spicy." Someone else offered "feisty." Rollins took the second one. "Feisty is a great word."

His case was mostly logistical, and it was funnier than it had any right to be. "An elbow flies here, hair flies there. Lot of hair flying around," he said. "You notice the boys, we with our long hair, we wet our hair, right? So it's out of the way. Not these women. Now their hair is just crazy, flying around in there, fists, hands, nails, you never know what's going to happen."

Then he raised the more serious version of the worry, which is size. Rollins pointed out that when he steps in with someone enormous, it is a known quantity. "Occasionally I'm in there with a giant Omos, something along those lines, a Brock Lesnar, some sort of savage," he said. "But you're in there often with women that are larger than you."

Lynch's rebuttal was two words. "I'm tough."

Rollins did not argue. "You are very tough," he said. "Very quick, very tough."

The real reveal came next, and it reframed the whole conversation. Rollins pointed out that his wife is afraid of heights and jumps off steel cages anyway.

Lynch confirmed it without flinching. "I'm terrified," she said. "Terrified. I just do it."

Rollins then described watching her at WarGames a few years back, in a double cage match, which he explained for anyone who has not seen one. Two rings side by side, one enormous cage wrapping both of them. Lynch had two women laid out on tables. She was on top of the cage.

"I'm like, what are you doing? Why would you do this?" Rollins said. "You don't have to do this. You've got lunatics in this match who will do this for you. You do not have to do this."

Her response, per Rollins: "Ah, it's fine."

His disbelief was the point. This is a person, he said, who does not want to climb a tree.

Lynch objected to that particular slander. "I'll climb a tree," she said. "I'm a good tree climber."

The distinction she drew was the best line of the segment. Trees are fine. Roller coasters are not. "I can control the tree, you know?" she said. "If I'm up on the tree, I can control the tree. I don't know who built that roller coaster."

Which invited the obvious follow-up: that is a lot of faith in the people who build WWE cages.

"Well," Lynch said, "I know them."
