Panthers GM Dan Morgan on the Timeline for a Bryce Young Contract Extension

The Carolina Panthers picked up Bryce Young's fifth-year option. The long-term extension is open. GM Dan Morgan joined the show and gave the right answers without giving any.

Young is now three years into his career as a former number one overall pick. That is typically the moment a face-of-the-franchise extension lands.

Morgan started with the calendar.

"We just picked up his fifth year, and you know, I think contract-wise in terms of long-term contract, we'll keep talking about that here internally and we'll get it done at the right time," Morgan said.

The reasoning he leaned on was developmental.

"We believe in Bryce," Morgan said. "He's gotten better every single year. He's developing as a leader. He has such a good grasp of Coach Canales and Brad Idzik's offense. He's just getting better every single day."

Rich asked the bigger question. Does Young need to be reassured that the absence of an extension is not a signal?

The benching from 2024 hung over the question. The conversation about whether Young could continue in the organization at all.

"That was on us in the media, not what you were saying obviously internally," Rich said. "But the point is, the arrow is trending up. Where does he feel, do you think?"

Morgan said the communication is consistent.

"We always do a great job of communicating with all our players, not just Bryce," Morgan said. "Bryce knows where we stand with him, and he feels the same way about us. When and if a deal gets done, it's one of those things where he knows we feel great about him. He feels great about where we're headed. So we'll get something done at the right time."

Rich asked the direct version. Is this a prove-it situation?

The answer was the company answer.

"Bryce, I think everybody on our roster has to prove every single day, their value and worth, and everybody knows that in this building that you have to go work and go earn everything," Morgan said.

He left the door open.

"Bryce, in terms of him having to earn it, everybody on the roster has to earn it," Morgan said. "Again, he's headed in the right direction. We feel great about him. We'll get it done at the right time."
