O'Shea & TJ Talk New World Champions, SummerSlam & Debate Who's the Greatest | No-Contest Wrestling

One week off, two new world champions, and a SummerSlam card that suddenly looks stacked. No Contest Wrestling came back to a full plate.

Start in Chicago, because that is where the belt changed hands. CM Punk beat Sami Zayn to become undisputed WWE champion for the eighth time, and the tell was there for anyone paying attention. Punk had told Cody Rhodes he was going to stay ready because you never know when a championship opportunity is going to fall out of the sky. Then Raw ran in Chicago and a Smackdown title was somehow being defended on it.

"That math should have mathed right there," O'Shea said.

Gunther jumped Cody to open the show and took him out of the match. Zayn tried to head back to Smackdown. He was told no. Then the elephant door lifted, and Punk was standing there posing like Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl.

Zayn's reign lasted nine days, which triggered the word both hosts hate. TJ pushed back on the framework. Mick Foley's three title reigns totaled something like 39 days, and nobody remembers the length. They remember the pop. Roddy Piper never held that belt. Ricky Steamboat never held it. Owen Hart never held it. Zayn did, three times.

Punk now gets Cody at SummerSlam in Minneapolis, and Seth Rollins gets Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship. Both hosts think both champions retain. Both hosts are also going, which is the more important detail. "I got to go to that SummerSlam," TJ said. "I don't think I've ever been to a SummerSlam."

The Rollins and Reigns promo exchange got graded, and Rollins lost on points. Going the sympathy route against the man whose group he broke up drew an audible reaction. Then Reigns landed the line about how you know you are number two, because after all these years he still needed Money in the Bank to win a championship. "I screamed so loud that the dog thought something was wrong," O'Shea said.

Over in AEW, Kenny Omega took the world title from MJF and is presumably headed to All In at Wembley against Will Ospreay. TJ was not thrilled about the MJF part, calling it quick for his taste, though he admitted MJF may be the best transitional champion in the business right now. O'Shea knew it was coming. Someone in the know walked him through the next four or five moves back in April, he kept his word and said nothing, and then quietly posted that Kenny was winning the title the night of Dynamite.

Also on the board: Brock Lesnar against Oba Femi in Hell in a Cell, which both hosts believe is genuinely the end for Lesnar. Femi spent Monday throwing six fake cops out of the ring, a detail TJ objected to on legal grounds. Impersonating a police officer is a crime. He wants them under the jail.

With no guest, the back half turned into a Reddit-sourced list of superlatives, and it produced real disagreement. For greatest male wrestler, TJ took Ric Flair on longevity, impact and total package, from the woo and the chop to the robes and the limousines across nearly a 50-year career. O'Shea took Kurt Angle, who won Olympic gold with a broken neck.

On the women's side, TJ went Asuka and O'Shea went Charlotte Flair and 14 world championships, while admitting his personal GOAT is still Mercedes Moné. Tag teams split Road Warriors and Dudley Boyz. Factions split the Four Horsemen against The Shield, with O'Shea pointing to the solo runs that followed. Favorite matches were Shinsuke Nakamura against AJ Styles at Wrestle Kingdom 10, and The Rock against Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 18, which O'Shea called a torch-passing story the two of them did not know they would have to tell.

They also built new stables. TJ assembled an all-women's answer to The Shield and named them the Sovereign Sirens. O'Shea countered with Ninjas With Altitude, all high flyers, everybody flipping.

The one sore spot was Fanatics Fest. Last year the show was invited and interviewed Rey Mysterio Jr. This year they were not asked back. O'Shea is going anyway as a guest, and he was clear about the plan.

"I will do everything in my power to make sure that there is no damn wrestling show that doesn't have NCW at least mentioned."
