A Tale of Two Fans: Brockman(Celtics) & TJ(76ers) React to Jaylen Brown Trade

One trade, two very different men at the same desk. Jaylen Brown is headed from Boston to Philadelphia, and the show turned it into exactly the split-screen it deserved, Chris Brockman in mourning and TJ throwing a party, with Seth Rollins refereeing the whole thing.

Brockman spoke like a fan losing a decade of his life. "This guy, Jaylen Brown, has been so good to me as a Celtics fan for a decade," he said. "We got to the mountain top and there was really no reason to get down from the mountain top." He stressed, citing Chris Mannix and Shams Charania, that Brown did not ask out. "This is something that the front office felt like they had to do." His parting message to the man taking his star was simple. "TJ, treat him right."

TJ, for his part, was fully back in. He confessed he had nearly given up on the Sixers after a lifetime of franchise heartbreak, from trading Wilt Chamberlain and Moses Malone to passing on Paul Pierce. "This is kind of rejuvenated my fandom. I thought I was out, they pulled me back in," he said. He laid out the dream lineup on the spot, Brown paired with Tyrese Maxey and a young Edgecombe, with Joel Embiid managed carefully. "Just be like, hey, big fella, sit there, get healthy." His trump card: "Jaylen Brown is an NBA Finals MVP. He is one of the best players in the world."

Then TJ pushed it further, into pure hope. "LeBron James comes to Philadelphia," he floated, arguing that could be the piece that gets the Sixers over the top. Rollins pressed him on the logic, and TJ did not pretend it was anything more than a wish. "Hope," he admitted. Rollins offered his own read on where LeBron actually lands. "I'm going to go play with my friends, Golden State," he said, pointing to LeBron's stated desire to team with Steph Curry. "That's the frontrunner to me."

Brockman kept clinging to a plan. He noted the Celtics acquired two first-round picks and two second-round picks along with Paul George, and he refused to believe Brown to a rival was the whole story. "I have to think this is just the first move in a series of moves," he said, tossing out Trey Murphy as a name and even floating a conspiracy about Boston swooping in on the not-yet-official Giannis trade. He leaned on the odds, too. "Boston still has the fourth best championship odds," he said, well ahead of Philadelphia, Toronto and Detroit, with a healthy Jayson Tatum returning.

The cruelest twist came from the analytics TJ could not wait to read aloud. Over the last three seasons, the Celtics went 36-6 when Brown did not play, and Brockman conceded Brown finished his Celtics career with a negative on-court, off-court differential. "You didn't need him," someone said, and Brockman could only sigh through it.

Rollins, ever the storyteller, found the perfect wrestling frame for splitting up a champion duo. "It's crazy to break up Brown and Tatum," he said. "It's almost as crazy as having a group that had, I don't know, Rollins and Reigns in it and breaking them up at the height of it." Brockman's honest bottom line: "Maybe I'm just smoking the copium today." TJ's? League Pass, renewed.
