"You Can Go Home Again": Rich Reacts to Odell Beckham Jr. Returning to the New York Giants

Aaron Donald announcing he was back after two years away dominated the conversation. Rich wanted to make sure the other half of that old Rams story didn't get lost.

Odell Beckham Jr. was Donald's teammate the last time the Super Bowl was played in Los Angeles and the Rams won it. Beckham got hurt in that game, but he won the ring. Rich ran through the roster to make the point: Von Miller was on that team, Cooper Kupp was the Super Bowl MVP, Matthew Stafford was throwing no-look passes in the crucial moments, and Donald was the one who wrapped it up.

Now Beckham has made the Giants.

Rich traced the full loop. The Giants picked him in the first round for the 2014 season. There was a way station in Cleveland, then Los Angeles, then Baltimore, where he connected with John Harbaugh. That connection opened the door back to New York, because Harbaugh is now the one running the Giants.

And Beckham made the roster at age 33, 12 years after the Giants drafted him. "It just doesn't happen," Rich said. He was still hunting for the research on how many times a team has drafted someone and seen him come back 12 years later. "So, kudos to him. He made it and the Giants are better for it."

Beckham's own words were the best part of it. Rich played the clip.

"I talked to you about pressure and how I love it and I thrive off it, but that was the first time I felt like in a position where it wasn't like, all right, this is guaranteed," Beckham said. "I asked for this opportunity. I have it and I'm right here."

He described seeing his son at the game, and what happened back at the hotel once he knew he would be on the team. "I had those tears when I got back to the hotel after figuring out, you know, I'm going to be here and I have an opportunity to rewrite some of the last bit of the chapter."

Beckham called it "very healing, very, very emotional," a chance to let out some of the pain he feels he has gone through.

Harbaugh made clear it wasn't a sentimental decision. "You pick the best guys, you know, and he was one of the best guys. He earned it. You know, he earned his spot. I mean, from beginning to end, he earned it."

He told Beckham on the practice field. Asked about the reaction, Harbaugh said, "I sensed accomplishment." He also sensed a player who didn't consider himself finished. "Now it's time to make it count, you know, that's where he's at."

Harbaugh admitted he didn't know how many times a comeback like this has been done. "The odds were probably against him, I would say. You know, he overcame the odds and did it. Now what do you do with it, and that's what he's focused on."

The roster math had casualties. Jalin Hyatt, whom the Giants drafted a couple of years ago, was released, and so was Braxton Berrios, though Berrios was re-signed right away. Hyatt might stick around on the practice squad.

Rich also ran through what the Giants bring to Sunday night against the Cowboys. Malik Nabers is still technically up in the air, though Rich thinks he plays. Skattebo is back. Jaxson Dart is the quarterback. There are four running backs and a tight end group featuring offseason addition Isaiah Likely, along with Theo Johnson if he can go.

Chris found the detail fans will care about most. Hyatt wore 13, and with him released, Beckham can go back to his old number. So if you have a 13 jersey from 2014, the advice from the show was simple: bring it out in '26.
