Wyndham Clark Talks US Open Win, PGA Tour Relegation, Broncos

Wyndham Clark has two US Opens, and he is in no rush to stop celebrating the second one. He came on the show with a cup of Sancerre white grapes in hand, two days after closing out a wire-to-wire win, and guest host Andrew Siciliano toasted him back with black coffee from a Keurig.

The celebration was the kind that earns a place in the story. Clark cracked a 1995 Sassicaia on Sunday, his favorite wine, and partied at a Hamptons beach club until 5 a.m. There was an open bar, friends, family and people he did not even know, all passing the trophy around and drinking out of it. The night ended in defeat only at the ping pong table, where his brother got the best of him. "He's kind of my kryptonite," Clark admitted, conceding the grapes had not helped his hand-eye coordination.

The most genuine moment came when Siciliano asked about his father, Randall, who flew in from Denver on a red eye without Clark knowing. Dan Hicks had teased it on the NBC broadcast. Clark's father had never seen him win any of his five tournaments in person, and to have him there for a US Open on Father's Day caught Clark off guard. "I was just so happy I could share that with him," he said. His dad got to drink from the cup and hang with all his kids. "I'm pretty sure he was in dad heaven."

Then there was the crowd. Fans were ejected, and many openly rooted against him. Two days later, Clark refuses to hold a grudge. "I honestly love it," he said. "It adds to the drama of the tournament." He framed it as a battle against one of the toughest courses and a hostile gallery, the kind of test he will lean on. Clark, who has spoken openly about his mental health, described the training that lets him replace negative thoughts with positive ones in real time, leaning on prayer, breathing and the belief that showing kindness would win the crowd over.

When Siciliano floated the idea of moving these events out of New York, Clark pushed back hard. "I think New York's one of our best cities in the world," he said, calling the fans passionate even as they rooted against an American who played on the Ryder Cup team and in the Olympics. His only ask is that they start rooting for success rather than against people. "I think golf needs to always be in New York."

On the PGA Tour's sweeping new format for 2028, with a Champions Series and a relegation-and-promotion structure borrowed from soccer, Clark is all in. He credited Brian Rolapp and the advisory board for planning the future of the game and called relegation the hook. "It obviously worked in soccer, and it's going to be great in golf," he said, comparing the drama to the end of an English Premier League season.

A self-described Broncos fan, Clark closed with optimism about Bo Nix's return from an ankle injury and the Waddle addition. He even pitched his own celebration: suit up, attempt a 30-yard field goal, and if that fails, carry the US Open trophy around as the water boy. The only condition was no pressure. "I don't want any more hate in my life," he laughed.
