Chris Brockman left for Kevin Hart's celebrity golf tournament for St. Jude's and left a long list of What's More Likely questions for Susie to ask Rich. The list was, in Brockman's absence, an act of revenge.
Rich made that very clear.
The opening question was personal, not football.
"What's more likely, you eat whatever you want and I usually find the wrappers in your car, or you really listen to what I have to say about stuff like that?" Susie asked.
Rich conceded.
"It's probably the eat whatever I want, you find the wrappers in the car," Rich said.
He noted the framing was suspicious for the opener.
"What would Chris know about what's happening in my car?" Rich said.
The actual NFL questions started with the season opener. Seahawks-Patriots Super Bowl rematch in Week 1.
"Super Bowl team to miss the playoffs this season. Seahawks or Patriots?" Susie asked.
Rich did not buy the premise, but said he understood the trap Brockman was setting.
"He thinks that Drake Maye is going to take another step forward, and he knows that AJ Brown is coming," Rich said. "So he's going to get that going for him."
The vote came down on the only honest answer.
"Because he's not here to defend himself, which is my favorite sport, I'll go Patriots," Rich said.
Better record into Thanksgiving. Eagles or Cowboys? Rich doubled down on his earlier power-rank pick.
"I still just need to know what the Eagles' offensive coordinator is going to do with Jalen Hurts that's different than any other new offensive coordinator not named Kellen Moore or Shane Steichen come in," Rich said. "I'll go with the Dallas Cowboys. I think they're going to have the better record heading into that game."
The AFC Championship Game ticket between the Bills and the Chiefs went to the obvious answer.
"I'll go Chiefs," Rich said. "I don't think that's a shock to anyone. The Bills are the ones that almost made the AFC Championship Game last year. The Bills are the ones that are probably improving. The Bills are the ones that are going to have a new home there. We have no idea, if the train whistles there are actually going to be more intense. I imagine they have created it to make it louder. I bet you the design of this stadium is to make it louder."
He still went with Kansas City.
"Mahomes coming back with a chip on his shoulder and a new knee, I kind of dig it," Rich said.
The NFC West/NFC North division-winner question got passionate.
"Why are you saying my Rams?" Rich shot back when Susie set it up.
The answer was easy.
"I will go Rams," Rich said. "They're number one on my power rankings."
The Bo Nix vs Aaron Rodgers comparison went young.
"I'll go Bo Nix," Rich said. "I'm eager to see what's going on with Jaylen Waddle and him. I think that's going to be really good. And RJ Harvey, I think, is going to take a step forward."
He flagged the obvious caveats.
"The X-factor here is how Nix comes back from that ankle surgery," Rich said. "And then, of course, how does it look with Sean Payton apparently not calling the plays. But yeah, I'll go with the Young Buck rather than the OG of Pittsburgh who's still not there."
The MVP top-five question gave him Joe Burrow or Bijan Robinson.
"I'll go Burrow," Rich said. "I'm going to go with the quarterback. Clearly, I'll go with the quarterback. I'll go with Burrow."
His resignation about positional MVP voting came right after.
"I still say we should just call it the most valuable quarterback," Rich said. "The quarterbacks get the MVPs and the running backs or receivers get the offensive players of the year. Like, that's the way it is definitely shaping up."
The next question paired hopeful streaks. OKC losses this playoffs or Rory McIlroy major wins this year.
"Higher number will be Oklahoma City losses in the playoffs," Rich said. "I think the Spurs are going to give him a series, and then the Knicks could be able to take a couple games from him."
He flagged Cleveland too.
"I admit I didn't watch a whole lot of Cleveland games this year, but as the playoffs have gone, and I've watched this team play, it wouldn't surprise me," Rich said. "It's the Harden factor."
Rich's read on James Harden's legacy was about the present moment.
"He's got to do it in one of these next two games for his legacy," Rich said. "Then he'll be in Madison Square Garden for an Eastern Conference Finals as the road team in the entire series. James Harden is looked at as one of the top greatest scorers obviously and players, but he has this thing that when the moment's there, he does not step up. He's got a chance to rewrite his own history."
The team-down-3-2 forcing a Game 7 question. Wolves or Pistons?
"Pistons," Rich said. Quick.
The NL Cy Young pick gave him Paul Skenes or Shohei Ohtani.
"I'll go Skenes," Rich said. "Skenes is unbelievable. Although his ERA at 1.97 or .98 right now is a full run more than Ohtani's. But 17 strikeouts, zero runs."
Susie asked the unspoken corollary.
"What if Ohtani doesn't win MVP this year, but wins Cy Young instead?" Susie asked.
Rich said the quiet part loud.
"By the way, it's so stupid how it's a real thing that's happening right now and he wants it to be discontinued cuz it affects his hitting," Rich said. "Get out of here."
The verdict on Ohtani came in two words.
"He's a contrarian," Rich said. "He's got to be contrarian."
