What Are the BEST Lines From 'Super Troopers'?!

Every comedy that actually lands leaves its cast with a line they will hear shouted at them for the rest of their lives. Rich wanted to know which ones Jay Chandrasekhar and Kevin Heffernan get stuck with.

The first answer required some careful editing for broadcast.

"I don't know if I can say it," one of them said. "In the first movie I call these people chicken lovers. I can't say the real word."

That is the one people yell across streets and parking lots. Hey, so and so. Chicken lover.

The best part is what they did with it. When it came time to fund the second movie, the crowdfunding campaign let people buy the opportunity to be insulted personally, on camera.

"I stood there for four days into the camera like, hey Jim, you're a chicken lover. Hey Paul, you're a chicken lover," he said. "It went on for three days."

Rich asked the obvious follow-up. Did that pay for the movie?

"It did. That helps."

That is a genuinely great business model. Sell the fans the exact thing they already shout at you, film it in bulk, and use the proceeds to make the sequel they are asking for.

Then Rich turned to the other line, and the answer came without hesitation.

"Who wants a mustache ride?"

Rich wanted to know the weirdest place it has been deployed at him. The answer suggests it is less a place than a condition of daily life.

"It happens a lot," he said. "It happens on both sides. Sometimes it's women. I want a mustache ride. Sometimes it's men. I want a mustache ride as well. So, you know. It's everywhere."

Rich asked the question every parent in the audience was already thinking. Has anyone ever yelled it in front of one of their kids, forcing an explanation?

"No, luckily," came the answer. "I think our fans are sophisticated."

Rich did not let that one pass unexamined. Is that right?

"They wouldn't do that. They are."

Sophisticated may not be the first word most people reach for when describing the Super Troopers audience. But the crowd has apparently developed a working sense of when to shout the line and when to keep it holstered, which is more restraint than the movie itself ever showed.
