WC Hero Vozinha Now Has More IG Followers Than the Population of Cape Verde???

Vozinha was a little busy when his Instagram numbers started moving. He was in goal, helping Cape Verde shut out Spain.

The Cape Verde goalkeeper had about 50,000 followers before the game. After the clean sheet, the show watched the number climb in real time, from 8.3 million to 8.6 million and counting. The jump alone, as the crew worked out, is roughly double the entire population of Cape Verde, a nation of ten islands.

Naturally, the conversation turned to whether anyone could possibly get that many followers overnight for free, which the show framed as a Mike Del Tufo question given his own follower history. The verdict on Vozinha was that his were earned the hard way, one save at a time against Spain.

The smaller details drew the most interest. Vozinha follows just 21 accounts and has posted only seven times, the profile of a man more focused on sound and team than on his feed.

From there it became a campaign to boost the show's own underdog. The crew rallied around getting J Feely's follower count up from around 1,165 to a nice round 1,200, anointing him the Vozinha of the Rich Eisen Show. All he has to do, the thinking went, is shout out Spain and watch the numbers roll in.
