WAIT!!! Myles Garrett Hasn’t Spoken to Aaron Donald about a Rams Return Yet???

The show has a new segment now. It is called Is He Back Yet, and it does not require a name.

"We don't even have to ask who the he is," Rich said. "Everyone knows."

The he is Aaron Donald, and the reason the question is live is Myles Garrett. The trade happened two months ago. Donald has been retired. Sean McVay said over the weekend that Donald is going through a process. Les Snead said from training camp on Monday that, for the first time, he thinks Donald has the itch.

So somebody asked Garrett the obvious question. Have you personally spoken to and lobbied Aaron Donald to come back?

Garrett's answer was a small masterclass in saying nothing while sounding like a great teammate.

"No. I've told him that I'd love to learn from him. I've watched his tape, obviously. I think everyone who's been a rusher across the line has a lot of respect for him. And I don't want to push him one way or another. If he's here, I'm going to be excited to be his teammate, his partner in crime. I think we can do great things, but it's a difficult thing coming back, and I know he has a family. He has a lot of decisions to make. The last thing he needs is me to push him one direction or another."

The desk applauded. Then the desk immediately called it.

"He's not telling the truth, right?"

Rich's position was more generous and more fun. He thinks Garrett is slow playing it, and he reached for the card table to explain.

"He's been dealt pocket rockets. He's going to slow play this down to the river, man. Trying to felt everyone."

Which, honestly, tracks. Two months as a Ram. A retired all-time great sitting one text message away. Why would you push. As one voice at the desk put it, it's already spoken. Dude, this is happening.

The phrase everybody latched onto was Garrett's own. Partner in crime.

"He's right," Rich said, "because it would be criminal if the two of them are allowed to play together." He wondered aloud whether there is a bylaw somewhere that could prevent it, and figured all 31 other teams are just saying bring it on.

The best evidence for how heavy this feels came from earlier in the same hour, courtesy of Matt Maiocco. John Lynch was passing along a John Wooden line to Kyle Shanahan about not letting your opponent scare you, about making what you do scare your opponent. As Lynch delivered it, news crossed that Myles Garrett was going to be a Ram.

Shanahan turned and told John Wooden, in absentia and in the strongest possible terms, exactly where to go.

"That's what Myles Garrett's acquisition makes people do," Rich said. "Tell John Wooden to go f himself."

Then somebody at the desk asked the reasonable follow-up. Who is going to tell John Wooden that, living or dead.

The rest of the segment was the Rams schedule on the screen and a lot of noise. San Francisco first. Then the Giants on a Monday night, which will be John Harbaugh's first road game as the Giants head coach. Then Denver, then Philadelphia, then Buffalo at home. Arizona. Vegas. The Chargers. Washington. Arizona again. A bye. Green Bay on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Then Dallas, Kansas City, San Francisco, and a close that wraps a visit to Tampa around a second Niners game.

"I know everybody's like, oh, it's 17 and 0," Rich said. "That would be stupid. With that schedule?"

Albert Breer opens tomorrow's program before heading to the Rams. Rich says he plans to ask him only one thing, and he will not even say the name.
