TJ Jefferson Just Ditched Penn State for a Pair of Oregon Air Jordans???

Closed mouths do not get fed. TJ opened his, and a box showed up from Eugene.

The setup happened when Dan Lanning was on the show, and TJ, a shoe head of long standing, could not let the moment pass. The Oregon Jordans are a holy grail, hard to get, and Lanning happens to wear the same size 13 TJ does. TJ made his pitch. Chris tried to piggyback with a "coach, 11" of his own. Lanning's read of the room was immediate: "You're lucky you are that you wear 13. That's the same size as me. I got a feeling you might be able to cash in."

Rich, watching the negotiation happen in real time, was less impressed with the technique. "You fumfered around," he said, noting TJ haggled with a sitting head coach for a good 30 seconds before landing the ask. Credit where it belongs went to Jordan Sherrill for the edit that made it play as smoothly as it did.

The price of the shoes was steeper than the shoes. On the show's fandom banner, adding a team means removing a team, and TJ agreed to the terms. Penn State off. Oregon on.

Then the box arrived. No label. No indication of what was inside. Just a Jumpman logo on the lid, which is how you know they are the real thing. Nobody is getting these at Foot Locker, and the unveiling drew a "Pulp Fiction" comparison at the desk, complete with somebody half expecting the box to light up.

It did not glow. It did something better. Inside was a pair of Ones, TJ's preferred model, with Ducks branding and Oregon on the back, and clean enough that TJ immediately started worrying about the soles. "I feel so bad getting those dirty," he said, floating a plan to just keep them in studio for a while.

They are also, plainly, not for sale. Nothing on the back, nothing to buy anywhere. A friend of the program issue.

The jealousy around the desk was mostly good-natured. Chris pointed out that his piggyback attempt was never going to work, because Lanning wears a 13 and Chris does not want a 13. "If only Dan Lanning had 11 and a half size," he said, before conceding he was happy for TJ because the shoes are sick. Somebody had priced out a pair of the Threes, which run around $8,500.

That left one loose end, and Rich went right after it. TJ has been a Penn State man, and Penn State has given him nothing but heartbreak after heartbreak, which is not quite nothing considering they won a couple of national titles. Still, this was a fanhood traded for footwear.

"You jumped off the bandwagon for a pair of shoes," Rich said.

He did. He said it out loud, threw up the O, and delivered the required "Go Ducks" while the rest of the desk enjoyed watching a lifelong allegiance get purchased for the price of one unlabeled box.
