Rich: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Is “Worth Every Penny” of New $500M Contract Extension

So, Patrick Mahomes is worth every penny of a new Chiefs deal that pays him north of half a billion dollars, and the room around him landed there without hesitation: "He's worth every penny. He's worth absolutely every penny."

The contract that prompted that verdict is an extension, not a redo. Brett Veach and the Chiefs put new money on top of what Mahomes is already making, with the new deal running from 2027 through 2033. Rich made the structure plain: the new money kicks in next year, in 2027, layered onto the existing terms.

Then came the price-is-right portion. Rich asked the room to guess, closest without going over, how much Mahomes is slated to make. The guesses ran small. One landed at $350 million ("that's cute"), another tried to game the rules with a flat dollar to go over. Nobody got close to the real figure.

The number: $504.75 million from 2026 through 2033. With incentives, if Mahomes hits them, it climbs to $522.25 million. The deal averages $64 million per year once the new money starts, which Rich noted is more than Dak Prescott's $60 million, finally resetting the top of the market for average annual value.

That scale is almost hard to process. As Rich put it, you hear Mahomes numbers and your instinct is to be stunned, but then the reaction flips to "oh yeah, okay, that makes sense." The room agreed it is "just a stupid amount of money," and "amazing," and in the same breath called him "probably still underpaid."

Andy Reid framed the why beyond the field. Reid was quoted saying Mahomes has done a great job as a professional and off the field as a father and husband: "You get the whole package there."

So that is the case, start to finish. Half a billion dollars, an extension stacked on a deal that was already enormous, a new market-topping average, and a room that reached for the same answer every time the staggering total came back up. Worth every penny.
