Linda Cohn Shares Some of Her Favorite Stuart Scott Stories

Some of the warmest moments in Linda Cohn's This Was SportsCenter visit came when she and Rich remembered Stuart Scott, gone now 11 years and still impossible not to talk about.

The running bit between them, Rich recalled, was always about their respective Stus. Cohn's husband at the time was a Stew, and Stuart Scott was Rich's, with Stuart forever referring to Rich as his TV wife, just spelled differently. Cohn described Scott as a kid with childlike enthusiasm, a man so clearly in his element that the booyahs and chest bumps were pure joy.

What she misses, and what Rich said he feels too, is wondering how Scott would have called the moments that have come up in the years since. They ran through the list of things they'd love to hear him riff on, from Caleb Williams and the Bears to Bill Belichick taking over North Carolina football, from Victor Wembanyama to LeBron James still going at 41. Scott was part of the family, Cohn said, the kind of colleague who could have just called from his office down the hall but always chose to come knock on her door instead.

That led to her favorite story. One time Scott knocked, opened the door, tripped on something, and fell flat into her office. Cohn asked if he was okay, and Scott popped up and declared that from then on, every time he came into her office, he'd have to fall on purpose. And he kept the promise. Every single time after that, Cohn swears, Scott would knock, open the door, and take a dive. It was, she said, a glimpse of his theater background, and proof that if Scott hadn't become the legend he became, he'd have been on screen and stage instead.
