Is It Truly Now or Never for Joe Burrow and the Bengals This Season?

There is no reading between the lines this time. Joe Burrow said the quiet part into a microphone.

"Put it out into the world and trying to manifest it," the Bengals quarterback said. "I'm trying to show our guys the urgency that I have and that I want us to have as an organization to go and make it happen. You can keep pushing it down the road or you can talk about it now and say this is the year, and I'm tired of saying next year, next year, next year. This is it."

Then came the follow-up. Does it have to be now or never, this year?

"That's how I'm treating it, for sure."

Rich took that as a feature, not a warning sign. It tracks with everything Burrow has said about this Cincinnati roster, which is that he really, really believes in it.

The next-year-next-year part reads differently once you connect it to last season. Burrow was open about being down, saying from the podium that the Bengals had broken him, that it was his body or the injury gods deciding to sideline him. The urgency now sounds like a man who is done waiting on that cycle. He feels good. He looks at his team and sees a winning team.

Dexter Lawrence being there is a real piece of it, and Rich said that should excite Bengals fans as much as it excites Burrow.

Then Rich made the case that gets lost in the annual Burrow discourse. Yes, he has only been to one Super Bowl. That is still more than most of the quarterbacks getting paid like him. There is a two-time MVP in Baltimore who has never made it. Justin Herbert, across the street, has all the talent in the world and has not won a playoff game. Trevor Lawrence was the first overall choice and has not gotten past the divisional round.

Burrow has actually made it. He can figure it out, he is damn good, and he has incredible talent around him.

Which leaves Cincinnati one job, and Rich named it plainly. Keep him upright and go deep.
