Rich has a name he cannot quit, and the Ravens just used a first-round pick on it.
Vega Ioane out of Penn State went 14th overall to Baltimore, and Rich brought him up again Tuesday for what felt like the fifth time in a week.
"Why not?" Rich said. "I've got an overreaction Monday on a Tuesday subject matter about him. You just listen to him."
The first soundbite was Ioane on his first NFL practice.
"It's unbelievable, you know, me and my teammate from Penn State, we were just talking after practice yesterday," Ioane said. "It's a crazy feeling knowing that you're wearing the NFL shield on your chest now, playing in the league. We just finished our first practice in the NFL. It's definitely a feeling of being blessed. I definitely wouldn't picture myself here a while ago, but just happy that I'm here now."
The Ravens are moving him to right guard. Ioane already has reps there from college, and he credited his Penn State offensive-line coach Phil Trautwein for rotating him left and right every day in practice so the position flex would not feel new.
"Out here, it's definitely a little bit of work to get used to again," Ioane said. "But ain't much to it."
Rich's overreaction Monday on a Tuesday: Ioane, finalist for Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Vegas number is 400-to-1 to win it outright, which Rich already knew. The point was that voters do not nominate interior linemen for the award, full stop.
"And not because he doesn't deserve it," Rich said. "Just because the voters just don't do that."
He has been hammering the point that mock drafts had Ioane going in the low 20s. The Ravens did not bite. The football version of Rich's roster-builder ledger is starting with this guy, and he wants the record to show it.
