Ex-Pro Bowl OT Terron Armstead: Jared Verse Can be Dominant with Browns

Most of the Myles Garrett conversation has centered on what the Rams gained. Terron Armstead wanted to talk about the kid headed the other way, and his message on Jared Verse was emphatic: Cleveland did not lose this trade.

Armstead saw Verse's public reaction and understood the hurt. This is a player who was just in the NFC Championship, knocking on the Super Bowl door, having already beaten the reigning champions. Getting moved stings. But the way Armstead frames it, both sides can win, and Cleveland absolutely did.

He is a believer in Verse, and has been openly. Verse is special, with enormous room to grow, even if he is not Garrett, who Armstead calls a once-in-a-generation athlete. The gap is in the toolbox: the hands, the reactions, the ability to set up a move now to cash it in later. Once Verse adds those, Armstead said, he will be dominant, even scary, and Cleveland will feel great about him now and for years.

Rich backed the logic by refusing to judge the deal in a vacuum. The Browns have stockpiled young talent over the last couple of drafts, players in years one and two who can grow together, while Garrett, for all his greatness, is seven or eight years ahead of that core. Cleveland also lands a star fresh off the greatest pass-rushing season in history and still picks sixth overall. Through that lens, Verse makes it a good move.

The part Armstead kept circling was the human side. For two years the Rams told Verse he was generationally great, the future of their defense, and then traded for Garrett anyway. Nobody can blame Los Angeles for that, Rich noted, but Verse is left to wonder who to believe and who he is.

Armstead treated it as bigger than football. This is life, he said, and life is about the response. His encouragement to Verse was to receive the move as an opportunity rather than a slight, a chance to build his own legacy, lead a franchise and change the narrative around a Browns organization that has not tasted sustained winning.

Garrett may have authored the greatest individual defensive season anyone has seen, but in Armstead's telling, the spotlight in Cleveland now belongs to Verse. It is his turn.
